General Shale’s commitment to preserving history is exemplified by its corporate sponsorship of one of America’s great natural history museums.

Located in Gray, Tennessee, the East Tennessee State University and General Shale Natural History Museum introduces visitors from around the world to the 5-million year old Gray Fossil Site. Workers uncovered one of North America's greatest archeological finds of prehistoric animals during a road project in 2000. The museum offers tours of active fossil digs, interactive exhibits involving a variety of animals and educational programs for all ages.
